101plan.hk — The 101 plan explained

101plan.hk is an independent Hong Kong insurance information site written and maintained by Baiyi Plan Editorial. It covers one subject: the low-protection investment-linked assurance schemes that the Hong Kong market calls 101 plans. Following the Insurance Authority's GL15, GL26 and GL29 and the SFC's Code on Investment-Linked Assurance Schemes and its November 2021 circular, the site explains how the platform works, contribution and lock-in periods, platform fees and bonuses, early surrender cost, how the structure differs from buying funds directly, application and switching procedures, and the compliance points for Mainland Chinese residents applying in Hong Kong.

The site does not cover product detail for Protection Linked Plans, participating savings plans, universal life or premium financing; it does not compare illustrated returns, rank products, accept applications or make referrals. Every figure comes from the IA, SFC, the Investor and Financial Education Council, the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers, the Inland Revenue Department or insurers' published key facts statements, with institution, title, date and link given on each page and on the sources page. Some IA documents return 403 to automated access and must be opened manually in a browser. Readers can report errors or suggest additions through the site's message form.

Operator

Baiyi Plan Editorial — Baiyi Plan Editorial is an independent Hong Kong editorial team covering one subject only: investment-linked assurance schemes whose death benefit is 101% or 105% of account value (the so-called 101 plan): how they work, what they charge, when you can exit and how they compare with buying funds directly. Every figure carries a currency, a date and a public source; nothing is sold.

This site is run by Baiyi Plan Editorial, an independent insurance information site providing general education and comparison. It is not an insurer, licensed insurance intermediary or bank, sells no insurance product and accepts no application. Content has not been reviewed, approved or endorsed by the Insurance Authority (IA). For applications, quotations and policy servicing, consult a Hong Kong insurer or licensed insurance intermediary.

Regulators and industry bodies cited on this site

Our material relies on regulations, guidelines and statistics published by the bodies below, cited page by page with dates. This site has no affiliation with, authorisation from, or endorsement by any of them.

Editorial principles

  1. We compile only public material from insurers, banks, regulators and official statistics, citing source and date per item; where the source is silent, we do not infer.
  2. We separate guaranteed from non-guaranteed, fact from opinion, regulation from practice; illustrations, back-tests and past performance do not indicate future results.
  3. We do not recommend products or promise returns, approvals or tax outcomes; personalised advice is the responsibility of licensed or exempt institutions and their appointed representatives.
  4. Cross-border content states the applicable jurisdiction; readers should obtain advice in their own jurisdiction.
  5. If you spot an error or outdated figure, tell us via the contact page; corrections are dated.

Editorial policy

Every article follows one process: define a single question, consult public documents from regulators, insurers and official statistics and record each source with its date, then have a second editor cross-check figures, terminology and the version of the rules cited. Pages are dated when updated. Guaranteed and non-guaranteed items, and facts and opinions, are labelled separately; nothing is inferred where sources are silent.
